Build a quiz

Your quiz lives on the Quiz tab. It saves itself as you go, so it’s still there if you close the laptop or sign in on another.

Add rounds

There are a few ways in, and you can mix them:

  • Songs and noises: on the Sounds tab, upload audio files or record a noise, then press Add to quiz on each one.
  • Pictures: on the Pictures tab, upload them, name each one, then press Add to quiz.
  • Mini-games: on the Games tab, make one, play it through, then press Add to quiz.
  • Text questions: on the Quiz tab, press Add a text round and type it in.
  • A whole quiz at once: press Paste in a quiz to bring in one your own AI assistant wrote. It arrives as a new pack. See packs.
  • Questions on a topic (PRO): press Ask for questions on a topic, type one in, and pick the questions you like from what comes back.

A quiz on Free has up to 10 rounds, and up to 30 on PRO. Remember, a round is one question.

Fill the answers

Each round needs its right answer typed in. For a song that’s the title, and for a picture or a noise, its name.

Then let Tossup do the wrong ones:

  • Auto-fill fills every round that is still short of answers.
  • Fill answers on a round fills its empty answers and keeps the ones you typed.
  • Re-roll on a round, or Re-roll all, swaps in new wrong answers.
  • Wrong answers sets how hard they are: Standard, or with PRO, Tricky or Devious.
  • Answers on a round sets how many players pick from: four, three or two. Fewer is easier.

You can always type over any wrong answer yourself. On a text round, Shuffle puts the answers in a new order.

Cut the clips

Every song or noise round plays two clips: the question clip while players guess, and the reveal clip with the answer. Tossup suggests both. Press Edit clips to change them:

  1. Drag the Q block to the bit you want players to hear, and drag its edges to trim it.
  2. Do the same with the R block for the reveal. The chorus works well: it’s the bit everyone shouts.
  3. Press Preview to hear each one, then Save windows.

A question clip runs 5 to 30 seconds, and a reveal clip 5 to 45. For a clip too short to place in one hearing, tick Play it 3 times. Clips of 8 seconds or less start with it ticked.

When you’re happy, press Render all media to cut every clip and frame every picture still waiting. Start game waits until they’re all done.

Frame the pictures

A picture round starts as a close-up of the middle for the question, and the whole picture for the reveal. Press Edit crops to choose:

  • Drag the box to move it, and drag its edges or corners to resize it. Smaller means harder.
  • Whole picture, Close-up and Centre are quick starting points.
  • The reveal can even be a different picture: the baby photo for the question, the grown-up for the answer.

Press Save crops when it looks right.

Order and timing

Use the arrows on each round to move it up or down, and × to take it out. Removed one by mistake? Press Undo.

Each round can have its own Time. Leave it on Game default to use the time per round you set in the lobby on the night.

Once you have a round, Estimated run time shows how long the quiz will take, and each round shows its own share.

Ready to play

The top of the console says Ready to play or Not ready yet. Beside Start game, a short list says what’s missing: a round with no answer, a clip still to cut. Fix those and you’re good to go.

Type Your name: players see it while they wait. Then press Start game. It saves your pack and opens the room. Run the game picks up from there.

Want a fresh start? New quiz clears the Quiz tab. Your saved packs stay where they are.

The stage is yours.
