Run the game
You do the voice. Tossup does the maths: the countdowns, the scores and the reveals. Here’s what’s in your hands on the night.
Open the room
Press Start game on the Quiz tab. Tossup saves the pack and opens the room: that’s the screen everyone watches. Free hosts can have one game open at a time, and PRO hosts up to 3.
The lobby shows the room code, a link with Copy, and a QR code. Phones scan it or type the code, and names land on the screen as they join. Somebody joined as “Mr Bean”? Press × beside their name to remove them.
A game on Free takes up to 30 players, and up to 200 on PRO.
Settings in the lobby
- Time per round
- How long each round lasts. Rounds with their own Time keep it.
- Show the choices
- While the clip plays lets fast ears answer early; After the clip makes everyone listen to the end. Picture and text rounds have their own way.
- Auto-advance
- Rolls through the reveal, the scoreboard and the next round on its own. Turn it off to move on yourself.
- Streak bonus
- Extra points for right answers in a row.
- Late join
- Lets latecomers in once the game has started.
When everyone’s in, press Start game.
Sound and the big screen
Every phone plays the clip itself, so tell players to turn their volume up. People sitting together only need one phone’s sound on: the rest can mute and still answer.
On a video call, share the big screen. The music plays on each person’s phone, not through the call.
The big screen never shows the answer before the reveal. Peek at answer shows it on your screen only, so don’t press it while you’re sharing.
The controls
The bar along the bottom of your screen keeps you in charge:
- Open answers now unlocks the answers before the clip ends, or skips the reading time.
- Reveal now closes the answers early and shows the right one.
- Replay clip plays the song or noise again on every phone.
- Pause freezes the timers, so nobody loses time. Resume picks it back up.
- Skip round ends the round now. Answers already in still score; nobody else gets the chance.
- Next round moves on from the reveal or the scoreboard.
- End game sends everyone back to the lobby with the scores cleared.
How scoring works
- A right answer scores 1000 points the moment the answers open, falling to 500 as time runs out. Wrong or no answer scores nothing.
- The streak bonus adds 50 points from the second right answer in a row, 100 from the third, and so on up to 250. A wrong answer resets it.
- In a mini-game, each player’s best score becomes their points, up to 1000.
- On equal points, whoever answered faster overall comes first.
The finish
Final scores shows the podium, the top ten and the awards: Fastest finger, Sharpshooter, Comeback and Unlucky. Every phone shows its own place.
Then pick one:
- New game, same pack plays it again. Same room code, same players, scores back to zero.
- Back to console takes you back to build or load the next one.
End the game or close the room
End game keeps the room. The code still works and everyone stays in, so you can load another pack and start again with the same crowd.
Close room shuts it. Everyone is dropped and the code stops working. Your quiz and your packs are untouched.
Left a room open? The host console says so at the top, with Rejoin and Close it.
